BCC Garden - Volunteer Days
September 2020 to January 2021; May 2025
Bangalore Creative Circus, Yeshwanthpur
At BCC, the development of a permaculture demonstration garden became an opportunity for hands-on learning through a series of community workshops. Designed by Ananas as an urban community food forest, the garden demonstrates how food can be grown in urban spaces using ecological principles, greywater reuse, rainwater harvesting, and soil-building practices.
Between September 2020 and January 2021, the garden was built through four volunteer workshop days, where participants engaged directly in building beds, creating pathways, preparing soil, planting perennial food species, and understanding composting and integrated pest management. These workshops focused on practical skills while introducing the ethics and design principles of permaculture.
The sessions also encouraged community exchange through conversations around seed saving, sapling propagation, and collaborative stewardship of the garden. Over time, the space has grown into a dense and productive landscape, offering participants a living example of how small-scale ecological food systems can be created and sustained.
This project is an ongoing collaboration, with periodic volunteer days conducted for maintenance and new planting.
