Ananas Native Nursery
The culmination of a 5-year long dream, in 2023 we started our own nursery for primarily native and naturalised species where we are dedicated to cultivating the unique plant life of our region
All plants are grown with love and care, in red soil and organic manure or compost. We do not use any synthetic inputs; only jeevamrutha or neem when required.
We believe strongly in growing hardy plants that thrive in local conditions and contribute to the creation of resilient and adaptive landscapes. The species we grow not only support but are in-fact entirely essential to local birds, pollinators and other fauna.
Species are selected according to their nativity and ecological roles as well as their use to human beings.
Seeds and other propagules are responsibly hand collected from mother plants and trees from the ecoregions that make up the Deccan plateau; with a particular focus on peri-urban areas where ecosystems and particular plant individuals are under threat from urban sprawl and its various impacts.
In addition to being a plant nursery, ANN is also an educational space for students and members of the public to connect with their local ecology, learn together about regenerative planting and building techniques and much more.
