Experiences shared by our clients

“We have been following the work of Ananas for some time through Instagram. The permaculture principals and whole systems design was very intriguing and just kept our learning spark alive.

After Covid we had decided to move back to our native and do organic farming, we volunteered at a fully functioning farm and learnt farming, but to design whole systems from scratch we didn’t know how to go about it, we just collected raw data from the land, like types of weeds that grow, the soil types around our farm, the terrain surrounding us, the animals that inhabit it, the rain patterns, the areas that flood, the water reservoirs in our area.

We needed help to bring all this raw data together and design the systems out of it, supporting our vision.

Ananas team had helped us with the design and also explained what is the reason for this specific solution in a particular problem area, so for example they dug around in many different locations and showed us how our soil varies and explained what could that soil support, our farm had few densely planted orchards and few sparse shrubby areas, they explained how both are important and how could both be designed, without drastically breaking their character.

We faced a lot of storm water runoff and erosion, so they designed and demonstrated how they would plan a pond around the natural slopes of the land and how to calibrate for slowing and holding the volume of water we receive. We are executing in phases and this our year 3 of execution, the study document they shared has been our go-to reserve for any doubt on how a specific area is meant to be designed. There were also new challenges during execution and we had to steer away slightly from the design they had given us, due to farms in upslope changing the path of storm water runoff. But we were able to apply the learnings from how whole systems were designed by Ananas team and modify the ground execution as per the changing scenarios. They are also still available over call and message to clarify and doubt, and guide us when we get stuck. It is a continuous discovery and learning experience when we are interacting with Ananas team.”

“The land is their client. You come next. And this is what sets Ananas apart. Their deep understanding of nature is charmingly matched by their childlike enthusiasm and curiosity. We loved the odd piece of land we acquired. But once the team spoke to us about the birds, bugs, bees, worms and all else that came with the land, we began to fathom the privilege and responsibility that comes with the acres. ‘Ecological system designers’ falls woefully short as a descriptor for what they do. This motley crew are the defenders, allies and knights that nature needs today. Trust them, they will do right by you and your land.”

“When we first approached Ananas, we were unsure what value a permaculture consultant could add by simply providing a design. But the depth of thought, research, and care that went into their work completely changed our perspective. Their design goes far beyond layout — it reflects a deep understanding of ecology, place, and long-term resilience. The plan has set up the farm with a strong ecological foundation that will serve us well for decades to come. What we appreciate most is that the relationship didn’t end with the design; they continue to support and guide us as the land evolves. It feels less like hiring consultants and more like gaining thoughtful partners invested in developing the farm’s ecosystem.”

“Kiri is the person I turned to when living life in the city was becoming too much for me and I was looking for different ways to live. Having then done permaculture courses and spent time on the land, I realised that no matter how much of that I might do, I will never know as much as Kiri, Jananee, Sanjana and the people of Ananas. And that's primarily because they really care for and nurture their knowledge of the natural environment, but also because they're massive nerds about it (and I mean that as a huge compliment).

Going to the land with Ananas is like taking a child to a toy store - there is lots of excitement and adventure (every time). Their knowledge and excitement about all the trees, the flowers, the insects, the birds, soil and rocks, while not something I can relate to, is infectious. And so, knowing that part of my life lies on the land, it gives me great comfort to have the super cool nerds of Ananas help me steward a beautiful and effective natural environment in which to live.”
