Swachhagraha is a citywide citizen awareness campaign started in 2016 by Solid Waste Management Round Table (SWMRT) to promote composting across the city. SWMRT partners with citizen groups, policy makers, BBMP & horticulture department under “Clean Bengaluru” campaign for decentralization of waste.
Ananas was brought in to plan a conceptual design and write a proposal for a set of elements proposed based on mutual agreement between citizens, SWMRT and Ananas. The vision was to create an interactive space for all citizens who visit and volunteer at the space regularly.
The design was created based on the inputs of all stakeholders involved as a platform for workshops, volunteering while zoning spaces for food forest, food for livestock and composting.
The design focused on layering functions such as food production, living fence and livestock requirements by suggesting implementing guilds that optimize planting in layers that perform a range of functions including providing food, beauty, pollinator forage and host plants, biomass, sent, bird habitat etc. The design also involved an intricate network of demarcated pathways across the site to increase accessibility and visibility of different parts of the site while not disturbing the growing space.
